Subject: NHS stadium lights

You may have already seen this but those of us who are still active in the NHS Alumni Association are passing it on.  Thanks!

Dear NHS Supporter:                                                Download PDF File  Stadium Letter

The lights have gone out at Newark High School stadium (Hoffman Stadium). In April of this year, after a transformer
was blown out during a storm, the Christina School District condemned the lighting system at the stadium.  The
lighting system
was donated twenty years ago, and has never been maintained by the District. Since the District is
experiencing serious financial issues, we, a group of concerned parents, alumni and coaches, have taken on the
monumental task of raising the necessary funds to remedy this situation.

We are in the process of securing information regarding our options for repair or replacement of the lighting system.
Ideally, we would love to install a brand new system; however, with time of the essence, we may have to come up with
a temporary fix for the upcoming seasons.  Information gathered thus far indicates that a repair can be accomplished
for $69,000.00, while a new system would cost approximately $185,000.000.

If you have ever attended an evening event at NHS Stadium, you know that there is nothing quite like it.  The stadium is
a showcase for our male and female athletes participating in football, soccer, lacrosse, and cheerleading.  Our band is
also showcased during their performances at the stadium.

Our most pressing need at this time is monetary donations.  If you are planning to make a donation, check with your
employer, many corporations will pledge matching funds.  All checks should be made payable to the NHS Stadium Fund
and can be mailed to NHS Stadium Fund, c/o Tom Jones, Treasurer, 4518 Sandy Drive, Wilmington, DE 19808.

Besides monetary donations we also need people to spread the word about our dilemma.  Tell everyone you know.  We
can always use the expertise of anyone who has handled a task like this before.  We also need resources to keep our
fundraising efforts moving forward.  We are not too proud to ask for help.  If you have a skill, or resource, please let us
use your expertise.

There have been two articles published about our situation.  One was published in the News Journal, on 6/29/07 and the
other was published in the Newark Post, on 7/6/07. Both can be accessed online.  I think you will find them very informative.

To keep track of our progress and for news of possible fundraising events visit the Yellowjackets website at
www.nhsjackets.com. There will also be a link to our information available through the NHS website, and information
on the Alumni website (www.nhsalumni.org).

If there are any questions I can answer for you, please feel free to contact me at kelly5966@att.net or 302-893-7197.

Please, help us keep the lights on at Hoffman Stadium.

Sincerely

Kelly Fowler, Secretary
